

Sergeant Gareth Thursby killed in Afghanistan
It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Sergeant Gareth Thursby, of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (3 YORKS), was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday 15 September 2012. He was 29 years old and is survived by his wife, Louise, and two children, Joshua and Ruby.
Sgt Thursby, alongside Pte Thomas Wroe, was shot and fatally wounded by a rogue Afghan Local Policeman who had faked an injury and asked them for help. The incident took place in Checkpoint Tora in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.Both men served proudly and in the highest traditions of The Yorkshire Regiment. They will never be forgotten.

Private Thomas Wroe killed in Afghanistan
It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Private Thomas Wroe, of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (3 YORKS), was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday 15 September 2012. Private Wroe was 18 years old and is survived by his parents, Michael and Claire, sister Demi and girlfriend Jessica, from Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.Pte Wroe, alongside Sgt Thursby, was shot and fatally wounded by a rogue Afghan Local Policeman who had faked an injury and asked them for help. The incident took place in Checkpoint Tora in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.
Both men served proudly and in the highest traditions of The Yorkshire Regiment. They will never be forgotten.

Guardsman Jamie Shadrake killed in Afghanistan
It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Guardsman Jamie Shadrake of the Reconnaissance Platoon, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was killed in Afghanistan on Friday 17 August 2012.
Guardsman Shadrake died of gunshot wounds sustained when his checkpoint was attacked by insurgents in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand province. He was 20 years old.
